For the Love of Tony
I’m obsessed with Tony Robbins. The man has a serious track-record for changing people’s lives. He’s successful, inspirational and committed. And, some days he wakes up and jumps on a trampoline to get revved up for the day. He’s a 6’7” man jumping on a child-sized trampoline--think about that for a moment. (Google it!). He has more energy and zest for life than my toddler and I love it. But, what I really love about him is his belief in himself and others. It’s astounding and life-changing.
The belief in yourself, the belief that you have the answers you need to make the changes in your life is an important one. Logic would suggest that if we have the answers and know the changes we need to make in our lives, we would all be “happy.” Then, why aren’t we all working in a satisfying job, for a boss we love, with the perfect balance, living our ideal life? If we have the answers and *know* what to do, why is it often so difficult for us to act? One word: fear. It is terrifying to pursue an action or path that takes you out of your comfort zone. I’m speaking from experience. “What if I fail? What if I look stupid? What will people think? What if I make a mistake?” These questions are part of an internal dialogue that exists to keep us “safe.” But, it also keeps us stuck. In listening to those “well intentioned” warnings, we unknowingly sabotage our potential time and time again.
But, as Robbins expresses, “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” We’re doing ourselves and society a disservice by remaining stuck in a place that feels safe, when we could be maximizing our potential, doing bigger, better and braver things.
This month, consider putting to the test, that belief in yourself . Entertain the fear. Connect with your brave and take one action, even small, that makes you uncomfortable and challenges that fear- today. Try it again tomorrow and the next day. Rinse, repeat for the remainder of January. Start with one action. See what comes back to you. And, don’t forget to share your brave accomplishments!
